"In the 1978 case, University of California Regents v. Bakke, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the University of California at Davis Medical School didn't have to admit twice-rejected Allan Bakke, even as the school admitted minority applicants with lower test scores. However, the court did strike down the use of quotas in the university's admissions policy."
